Taking inspiration from this book / Website I started a mail art project back in September . I did it through a Facebook event page. I envied friends and friends of friends to attend. If they sign up I sent them a piece through the mail. I end up doing a pretty good sized amount of work. Since the last of them have been mailed Im going to post all of them here over the next few weeks. The pieces are two parted. I did an envelope illustration and a piece. Most were about 8 1/2 by 11. ENJOY!

I know I haven't posted in a while. Life has been *life* . I have been busy working on a bunch of different illustration projects. I just finish my sar'zine insert. 120 or so different variation on a theme. Lots of great writing and each issue will have a slightly different insert so buy as many as possible! They will be on sale in all sorts of fine bookstores very soon. Also the IIWII blog is still rocking hard!check it out. Might have some gallery shows coming up in as well as a line of T's. stay tuned! The band is also back up-check it out here

I strait up coped this image from the early Jan (Jan13th) cover of Newsweek Magazine. I didn't catch who took the photo but It's most likely a AP person. Either way It was a great photo to work from! I simplified and changed a bit here and there. I think the hand is what I was really attracted me to this image. I normal use my own photo references (drawing people from life is the best) but I was just bored at lunch.......
I doodle this guy wondering around our library. I only got his general features and I made up the rest-especially the high contrast lighting. More frog than man I think, kinda looks like Alan Greenspan without his glasses.

Mathew Barney and The Dallas Art Scene

I just got back from Dallas/FT Worth area visiting my in laws. It was a good trip all and all. We went to the Dallas Museum of Art on of the last few days of our trip. It pretty much destroyed the SAM in scale and breath. Don't get me wrong I love the SAM-this was just .....huge! While we were wondering threw one of the four gift shops I final got myself a copy of the giant Out of Print hardcover Cremaster Cycle book. I love big and heavy art books! I really dig the whole Cremaster Cycle and the majority of Mathew Barney's work. I Have been wanting this book for a while. Ive checked out from the library about a dozen times. The place was really great for the most part (their Greco-roman stuff kinda sucked but this is really nitpicking....) but two exhibits stood out for me. The first was the . The Materials and Meanings exhibit . featured cardboard furniture which was really cool! I really need to make some! The other was the Jacob Lawrence: The Life of Toussaint L' Ouverture exhibit. It had its own constructed room about the size of the SAMS gift shop! Really great stuff!

This is a group of prototype flyers for a upcoming Wiscon Show at the FUNHOUSE. I loved this place when it was Zacks. Its their first show and is should be pretty good. Since its their first time out I assume that they will open the rodeo. There are three other bands playing that night. Jaguar Paw and The Sugarsmacks I haven't seen, but the headliners NighTrain is on the right side of Awesome!

Its been awhile since I posted anything. Mainly because of the ongoing move. Month two of looking, moving, and cleaning. Overall conclusion: I own way too much shit. On a completely different note... I do have some pretty exciting career news. One of my drawings I did many moons ago got chosen to be used for a book cover. It is a pretty interesting story how it all came about. A few years back A good friend ask for some really rough Ralph Steadman type illustrations for a book he was writing. It was a sort of Catch-22 like war novel set during the first few years of the second gulf war. For the latter half of 2006 I pumped out a whopping 45 or so images. The last I heard the book was caught up in the gears of the literary machine. Either way a few souls have been curious over the years so I figure I would post them......Here is part one. All of theses are just simple, very rough pen and ink drawings on illustration board-ENJOY!
